Macy's marathon

Macy's had a marathon sales weekend before Christmas, staying open from Friday morning, Dec. 21, until Monday, Dec. 24, at 6pm.

The NY Times reported that there were a lot of BUIs (buying under the influence) happening from 1am to 4am.

Meanwhile, 2nd shifters, who rarely get to consume during normal business hours, got to holiday shop. Macy's representative, of course, spun the extended hours to sound altruistic, but really it was about capturing another niche consumer market.

Unfortunately, I don't have the stamina to shop at 2am, so I never witnessed it firsthand. This, however, was my perspective from the escalator the week before Christmas.
