Zen of Knitting

I read this blurb this morning while riding the subway to work. It illustrates the meditation attributes of knitting.

While waiting for rescue, she knitted
L’AQUILA, ITALY. A 98-year-old woman, Maria D’Antuono, was found alive under the rubble 30 hours after she was buried alive as her walls crashed in around her during the earthquake.

“I tried to remain active while I was down there,” she told rescuers. “Mainly I crochet because I always have a hook in my pocket.”

When she was pulled from the rubble and saw all the TV cameras trained on her, she asked: “Hold on, let me at least brush my hair.”

Medawar's Mum has just started knitting again, after many years, because she doesn't need to be able to see clearly in order to knit.

A useful and relaxing hobby indeed, but not one to be conducted in presence of the cat.

Yes, it's quite a relaxing hobby. I wish to relearn how to knit, but I'm left-handed and have problems taking directions from most instructors.
