Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008

The City is in a somber mood this morning. Pedestrians seem to be silently on task. I can hear Scottish bagpipes playing from the street. Groups of NYFD can be found clustered together in uniform. In our secular society, I imagine these firefighters have devised new rituals to commemorate this date.

A guy on the train, wearing an ill-fitting suit and dark sunglasses, appeared to have slight bodily ticks as if emotionally preparing himself for a visit to Ground Zero. The 9/11 Truthers are here too, wearing their t-shirts that challenge the dominant discourse around the events surrounding the crisis.
