Remembering Freddie Mercury

This documentary left me contemplating the legacy of Freddie Mercury. A gay South Asian journalist interviewed for the film suggests that Freddie became a rock star because he could pass for white. Would Westerners have embraced a rock star who was openly gay, Zoroastrian and South Asian?

NYC in the 1980s looks so decadent in the video clips. Interviews with friends and former lover about the lifestyle struck me. Many of Freddie's former lovers and friends are alive and healthy, having survived the epidemic.

I'm left wondering how Freddie contracted HIV.
